Challenge

The Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools works to open doors for children in our community. They recognize that access to resources should never be an obstacle to a child growing into their potential. For the Foundation’s 2023 fundraising luncheon, they wanted to move outside of the traditional format for their programming. They wanted to seize an opportunity to do and say more in their luncheon video - but how to engage an audience in a new way while still making the same ask?

Solution

When you tell a good story, you don’t have to spell out its meaning. So together we walked away from a transactional message toward a picture of childhood thriving. We showcased the creativity, artwork, and ambitions of local students. We let the audience feel the weight of what these children hope for and the possibility of what that future could look like. Dramatic lighting pulls the viewer into the serious nature of the message. Visuals of the students themselves grounds the viewer in the reality of the need. And yet through careful editing and allowing the voices of the students to hold the primary spotlight, the underlying theme of the video is hope.
