PRINT: A Framework for Better Teaming With Emotional Intelligence

Written By Alexis Bond
‘Why did I react like that!?’ Have you ever asked yourself that question after a frustrating encounter with a teammate, boss or client? Maybe you regret that cutting remark that accidentally slipped out or maybe you are wishing you wouldn’t have clammed up and stayed silent as someone bulldozed over another person’s idea. You might find yourself replaying the encounter in your mind and struggling to understand why you acted the way you did.

The great news is that you don’t need to try and figure this out on your own. The PRINT Survey helps individuals find the answer to that question of why, as well as dramatically deepen their level of self-awareness. It is a powerful framework that unlocks a person's unconscious motivators. These are the deep, often hidden, core drivers that are at the root of why we do the things we do. Better understanding our unconscious motivators is absolutely key in navigating healthier ways to respond to life's challenges.

PRINT is built on the framework of nine distinctive motivational archetypes. We are all nine PRINT types but there are two that most impact a person’s day to day life. They are called your PRINT Major and Minor, and it’s those two PRINT Types that filter everything that we see, hear, think, and encounter. Additionally, our PRINT Types tend to provide us with typical solutions (healthy or not) as to how to interact in the world in order to get our needs met.

If we have not done the work of growing our self-awareness, people are often confused as to why they react poorly again and again in certain situations. Fortunately, after taking the PRINT Survey, there is an incredibly comprehensive 14 page report that dives into helping you better understand your Types’ wonderful Best Self qualities, your Potential for Shadow, and your Triggers. Working with Riff’s certified PRINT coaches provides not only a deeper understanding of your specific Type, but also provides clear strategies for growth and development.

We have found once a leader has gone through the initial introduction to PRINT, they are excited to bring this back to their team as a way to better understand one another and communicate more effectively. Through ongoing workshops and focused sessions, organizations have profoundly better tools to handle the day-to-day stresses that show up at work and life. Team members have a shared language and can articulate what’s triggering them and why in a less heated state. Moreover, they have strategies to actively work on mitigating their triggers' impact and avoid spreading unhealthy reactions to their teammates.

The implementation of the PRINT framework has been instrumental in helping new or struggling teams have increased respect for one another, better appreciate differences, and facilitate greater team harmony. All of this adds up to a healthier work environment with less drama. We invite you to reach out to us here to see how we can start supporting you and your team today.
